Wetangula cited the example of Nominated Senator Hosea Ochwang’i, who sparked a heated debate in parliament after he was allowed to vote on behalf of Kisii Senator Chris Obure.
According to the law, nominated Senators were not allowed to vote on the Bill yet Mr Ochwang’i voted after he produced a letter from Mr Oubure that authorised him to vote.
“The speaker allowed unauthorised members to cast votes and this made the difference. Even some members of Jubilee side opted to vote against the Bill. We will take legal action and indict the speaker. The election was rigged,” Wetangula affirmed.
Jubilee Senators overwhelmingly voted to pass the controversial Election Law (Amendment) Bill paving way for Kenyatta to assent it into law.
Once signed by the President, the IEBC will be allowed to have a manual backup that will be used in voter identification in cases where the electronic system fails.
